Sheriff: No foul play suspected after body found in Smyth County cabin

A partially-decomposed body was found inside this abandoned cabin Wednesday in Smyth County, Virginia. Although a person was reported missing in that area in October 2015, Sheriff Chip Shuler said the remains are being sent to Roanoke to get a positive ID. (SCSO Virginia)

The remains of a body were found in an abandoned cabin in Smyth County, Sheriff Chip Shuler confirmed on Thursday.

Shuler told News 5 that the body has been taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke for an autopsy. He noted that the location of the cabin was near the Wythe County border and no foul play was suspected in the death.

Preliminary data indicates that the body had been in that location for quite a while, the sheriff said.
