Sullivan County deputies looking for attempted murder suspect

    Sullivan County Sheriff's Office is looking for a attempted murder suspect.

    William Kevin Carter, 55, of Cox Hollow Road, is wanted for attempted first-degree murder.

    Deputies said do not approach him if you see him. Call 911 immediately.

    According to deputies, a female called police about 3 p.m. Wednesday from the 500 block of Cox Hollow Road.

    She told them she had been threatened with a handgun, and shots had been fired.

    The victim said Carter became argumentative with her and said she needed to leave the residence.

    According to deputies, Carter retrieved a 9mm handgun and fired two rounds in her direction.

    The victim was able to run away from the residence with Carter following.

    Carter eventually ran into the woods.

    Officers said Carter was last seen wearing camouflage pants and a brown Carhartt jacket.

    Investigators established a perimeter and called in a helicopter to help search.

    Several other locations were checked. Carter was not located.

    The mugshot is from the last time he was booked into the Sullivan County Jail in 2008.

    Carter is wanted by multiple jurisdictions for theft, fraud, and contractor fraud.
