Sullivan County mayor addresses animal shelter controversy

(WCYB / News 5 on Fox)

District Attorney General Barry Staubus confirmed to WCYB that his office has received complaints of criminal activity at the Sullivan County Animal Shelter.

Right now there is no formal investigation but Staubus says they are reviewing all the information and they will take it to law enforcement to determine if there is enough evidence to proceed.

The county just took over operations in January after dissolving its partnership with Kingsport and Bluff City. SBK had been a joint shelter operation since 2011.

Volunteers talked with News 5's Rebecca Pepin who said they are concerned about conditions at the facility and what they say is a lack of communication from the county.
