Three bodies found in Washington County, VA

UPDATE: The Washington County, VA Sheriff's Office has released the names of the three people that were found dead on Saturday at 18128 Brekenridge Court in Abingdon.

Sheriff Newman said James Robert Grace, 73, Carolyn Christine Grace, 64, and Jamie Grant Grace, 38, were found dead.

James and Carolyn lived at the Abingdon home where they were found. Jamie lived in Tazewell, Virginia.

Sheriff Newman said the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office assisted in identifying them and notifying the family.

He said the investigation continues to determine what led up to the incident.

All three bodies will be sent to the State Medical Examiners Office in Roanoke, VA for autopsies.


UPDATE: Washington County, VA officials said there are no suspects at large from this incident.

Sheriff Newman said dispatch received a call around 11:45 am Saturday. The caller advised a body was visible in the doorway of the residence. Further investigation revealed two more bodies near the doorway.

Officials said a handgun, knife and baseball bat were located near the bodies.

Neighbors said they heard what they thought were fireworks and now officials believe they were gunshots around 10:30 p.m. Friday. They said law enforcement was not contacted.

Investigators said it doesn't appear there are any suspects at large and the incident is contained within the residence. The victim's names are being withheld pending family notification.


Washington County, Virginia Sheriff Fred Newman said three bodies were found Saturday at a residence.

He said they were found at Brekenridge Court off Watauga Road.

Detectives are on scene and are beginning their investigation.
