Two bills in Virginia General Assembly seek a hike in minimum wage
Virginia lawmakers are looking at increasing the minimum wage.
The Senate and House have different plans, but if approved the wage would increase to $15 per hour.
The Senate plan which is headed to the floor for a vote calls for increases to $10 this year, $13 in 2020, and $15 in 2021.
The House plan is slower breaking the increases into smaller amounts spread over 5 years.
Senator Ben Chafin voted against the bill in committee this week in a 6-4 vote in favor. The House bill is currently in the Commerce and Labor committee which is chaired by Scott County Delegate Terry Kilgore.
