Miya Hunter and her family are back together in Big Stone Gap, Va., hoping other students and parents can learn from the tragic incident at Union Middle School last week.

Hunter had to be airlifted to UT Medical Center in Knoxville, Tenn. for brain surgery and stitches, but recovered remarkably fast, and was released over the weekend.

Miya recognizes she was a bully in the past, and assumes some responsibility for the fight, and is now urging other students to stop bullying in school.

“No one knows what anyone is going through,” Miya told WCYB. “I learned that myself, because I did some things too that were bad, and I'm sorry for that."

The other student involved in the fight was charged with causing malicious bodily injury, and has yet to return to school.

A Go Fund Me page set up to help Miya’s family with medical bills has raised thousands of dollars so far. You can help by clicking here.
