UPDATE: Fatal Thursday crash in Kingsport leads to vehicular homicide charge

A Kingsport man who ran away from the scene of a fatal sport utility vehicle crash on East Stone Drive Thursday morning is now facing a long list of charges, police reported.

Brian E. Johnson, 39, is charged with vehicular homicide, aggravated assault, vehicular assault, driving under the influence (4th offense), driving on a revoked license, leaving the scene of a crash involving death and personal injury, possession of stolen property, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to comply with financial responsibility and a number of outstanding warrants from surrounding localities, the report said.

Johnson was reportedly traveling eastbound on Stone Drive just after 6:30 a.m. when his SUV traveled into the westbound lanes near the Stonebrook Place intersection and struck another SUV driven by Brandon Beavers, the report said. A passenger in Beavers' SUV, Tiffany L. Moore, 30, of Kingsport, was killed in the crash, Kingsport PIO Tom Patton confirmed.

Beavers sustained serious injuries in the wreck and was hospitalized. The crash caused all of the westbound lanes of East Stone to be shut down for several hours.

Police said that Johnson, despite his injuries, ran from the scene and was soon apprehended in the Bloomingdale Pike area. He was also hospitalized and is under police supervision, the report said.
