Bristol Virginia is about to unveil a big study detailing the potential economic boost expected from extending Amtrak rail service through the city.
The city issued notice Friday that the study will be presented at a public forum Wednesday night at The Bristol Hotel.
A consulting firm undertook the study of passenger demand and the potential return of investments in the service.
The $156,000 study was funded by the Virginia Tobacco Commission, Appalachian Regional Commission and the USDA.
Local leaders call this phase one of the process of gauging the impact and costs.
