UPDATE: Kingsport murder suspect waives hearing, bound over to grand jury
The Kingsport man accused of killing his live-in girlfriend last week at Royal Oak Apartments waived his preliminary hearing in Sessions Court on Thursday.
A first-degree murder charge against Samuel Sandidge, 67, was bound over to a grand jury. He is accused of bludgeoning Mary Danner, 68, to death inside the apartment they shared, according to a police affidavit.
The report says Sandidge described standing over Danner after hitting her once with an oxygen tank then hitting her three more times after he realized she was still breathing. The suspect told officers that he was tired of her talking about a move to Pennsylvania and the couple had argued about him moving with her.
Police reported that Sandidge continued to stay in the apartment three days after the murder, telling neighbors that Danner had already left for Pennsylvania to stay with family.
Danner's body was discovered on Aug. 2 when employees at the apartment complex conducting a routine inspection were overwhelmed by a terrible smell when they opened the apartment door.
The affidavit said Sandidge was taken into custody later that day at a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant when law enforcement pinged his cell phone to locate him.
