The Russell County man accused by police of killing a neighboring family's pet dog had his charges bound over to a grand jury.

The case involving Jimmy Campbell, 62, of Lebanon, Virginia, will now be heard in Circuit Court.

Campbell was arrested earlier this summer and charged with one count of torture of an animal causing death, a Class 6 felony, maiming or killing an animal and destruction of property with intent, both misdemeanors.

Deputies were called to the family's home located in the Jessee's Mill community where the body of their German Shepherd Gunner was found. He had been shot several times, according to investigators.
