UPDATE: Murder suspect in Hog Wild Saloon shooting pleads not guilty
The teenager charged in the shooting death of a patron at a Kingsport barroom pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on Friday.
William Newkirk of Bristol, Virginia, appeared in Criminal Court in Blountville and is scheduled for another hearing on Jan. 31, according to court information obtained by WCYB.
Newkirk is accused of shooting Brett Rogers, 20, inside the West Stone Drive nightspot on March 2. Rogers later died of his injuries at an area hospital.
A shooting took place hours later at Eastside Apartments in Bristol, Virginia that authorities said was retribution for the earlier incident at the Hog Wild. A woman at the complex suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The saloon has been shut down for fire code violations and the city of Kingsport ordered the site to be demolished earlier this summer.
