Johnson City prosecutors have concluded that 19-year-old Matthew Dye was justified in killing his mother’s boyfriend.

As a result, murder charges were dismissed Monday against Dye in the killing of 41-year-old Gary Taylor.

The stabbing happened in September in Taylor’s yard on East Maple Street.

Assistant District Attorney Fred Lance says evidence indicates that Taylor had a history of violence against Dye’s mother and he turned violent on her that day when Dye admitted stabbing him in the back during a scuffle to defend his mother.
