UPDATE: Red Onion inmate indicted for December attack on prison guards

    A Wise County, Virginia grand jury has indicted a prisoner at the state's super max Red Onion Prison for charges related to a Dec. 2 attack on two officers.

    Keith McDuffie, 31, is charged with one count of attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer, two counts of assaulting a corrections officer and one count of prisoner in possession of a deadly weapon, according to court information obtained by WCYB.

    A preliminary investigation in December revealed McDuffie reportedly stabbed one officer in the upper body while assaulting another, resulting in a broken knee.

    McDuffie, who is currently serving a 65-year sentence for five counts of robbery, is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
