VSP investigating fatal wreck involving 'hood surfing' in Washington County, Virginia
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Va. (WCYB) - One person is dead after a fatal crash in Washington County, Virginia.
According to Virginia State Police, a 16-year-old Washington County girl was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier on Childress Hollow Road when her 15-year-old male passenger got out of the vehicle and crawled onto the hood with the intention of "hood surfing."
VSP said the Cavalier was traveling along Childress Hollow Road below the posted speed limit of 35 mph when the 15-year-old Washington County male slid off the hood.
They said the teenage driver was unable to brake in time and struck the male. He died at the scene.
After consultation with the Washington County Commonwealth's Attorney, the 16-year-old was cited for reckless driving.
The incident remains under investigation.
