Wise County, Virginia Commonwealth's Attorney Chuck Slemp issued a comment Tuesday concerning several agencies expending manpower to a weekend cave rescue call that turned out to be bogus.
Those agencies were dispatched to the East Stone Gap area Saturday evening after county emergency officials received a report of a cave collapse on a juvenile. One report said it was a 12-year-old boy.
Slemp said Tuesday after an official review the initial report that came to the county was determined "not credible" and the source of the information was "unreliable."
The attorney commended all of the personnel who were assigned to the case and concluded by saying the matter was thoroughly investigated with no missing persons to report.
