State Representative Jon Lundberg officially announced his bid for the state senate seat being vacated by Ron Ramsey. The district includes Sullivan and Johnson Counties and part of Carter County.

He currently represents the first district in the State House of Representatives, which covers the city of Bristol. State Representatives Timothy Hill of Blountville and Bud Hulsey of Kingsport both say they are not running for the senate seat.

Ron Ramsey has held the second district senate seat for more than 20 years and announced earlier this week he is retiring.

Neal Kerney of Kingsport, former Sullivan County Mayor Steve Godsey, and Brad Baker have also picked up the papers necessary to run, but have not filed them.

Former Register of Deeds Bart Long, current County Commissioner John Crawford, and former Bristol, Virginia mayor Michelle Denise have picked up papers to run for Lundberg's House of Representatives seat. Candidates have until April 7th at noon to file.
