UPDATE: Moore loses legal battle to block Jones' U.S. Senate win in Alabama
A Circuit Court judge in Montgomery, Alabama has denied a request by Roy Moore's campaign to block the certification of Democrat Doug Jones' win earlier this month for a U.S. Senate seat.
Moore had issued allegations of election fraud in his legal complaint that he said altered the outcome of the election which will now be certified by an official committee.
Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill told The Associated Press on Wednesday evening that he has no intention of delaying the canvassing board meeting.
“It is not going to delay certification and Doug Jones will be certified (Thursday) at 1 p.m. and he will be sworn in by Vice President Pence on the third of January,” Merrill said.
Several accusers came forward during the Alabama campaign and said Moore sexually assaulted them as young girls. The candidate denied those allegations.
