Construction begins on Dobyns-Bennett expansion

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Construction is underway on an expansion to Kingsport's Dobyns-Bennett High School. The three-story addition will feature more classrooms as well as science and computer labs.

"We're pushing 2,300 students. We'll go over 2,300 next year, and we're just simply out of space," Principal Chris Hampton said. "In addition to high quality space for instruction, it's necessary for staff and students."

The science and technology center will allow for more hands-on learning. A new entrance and new offices will also be included.

Hampton asks parents and students to visit the Dobyns-Bennett High School website before school starts next week. The site has details on new traffic patterns around the school.

Construction is expected to be completed in 2019.
