Greeneville Kmart among 64 stores targeted for closure

Cost-cutting measures have claimed another Kmart store in the region.

Workers at the Greeneville, Tennessee were informed Thursday of corporate's decision to close that facility in early April, according to a release from its parent company Sears Holdings.

A group of 63 other Kmart locations and 39 Sears stores are included in the latest line of closures for the beleaguered department store chains that cut their locations nearly in half over the past year due to sagging sales and digital competition from internet companies like Amazon.

Kmart in Abingdon, Virginia is closing its doors later this month following an announcement made in November. That will leave the chain's Kingsport location as the only store in the Tri-Cities region.
