Jonesborough police officers who shot and killed a man along Highway 11E will not face any charges following the incident which occurred on March 19.

Washington County, Tennessee District Attorney General Ken Baldwin ruled the officers were justified when they shot and killed 26-year-old Mark Clinton Harrell, Jr.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said Harrell was holding a machete when he was confronted by police near the Country Inn and Suites. He then took off across Highway 11E.

Jonesborough police officers caught up with him and asked him to drop the weapon, but he refused, according to authorities.

The TBI said Harrell then ran toward an officer - swinging the machete - and that's when he was shot.
