A Japanese auto parts company has selected Surgoinsville, Tennessee for the location of its first manufacturing plant in the U.S.

Officials with Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development announced Wednesday that Miyake Forging North America will construct a $13.7 million, 45,000-square foot plant in the Phipps Bend Industrial Park and plan to open it in early 2018.

The group plans to hire 60 workers to manufacture automotive bearing parts to better supply the company's U.S. market due to consumer demand, the report said.
