Unicoi County sheriff calls for more involvement in Neighborhood Watch

The sheriff of Unicoi County is hoping to revive the Neighborhood Watch program after an increase in burglaries.

Several car burglaries occurred in the Springbrook area of the county. Those crimes were solved with the help of the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Now, Unicoi County Sheriff Mike Hensley is asking neighbors to get involved and watch out for each other.

Hensley says citizens can do a lot to help the sheriff's department solve crimes faster.

"It is communication between the public and law enforcement. Let them know what we're looking for, or they might have information on something that we need to be aware of that's going on in their community," Hensley said.

The next neighborhood watch meeting is October 3 at 7 p.m. at the Temple Hill/Flag Pond Neighborhood Watch building.
