Authorities raid adult homes in Russell County
RUSSELL COUNTY, Va. —
Officers raided assisted living facilities for the elderly and incapacitated in Russell County, along with the homes of the owners.
News 5 was on the scene as authorities carried out the warrants. The raid stems from search warrants obtained by investigators in Russell County Circuit Court. Those warrants describe their search for possible evidence of abuse and neglect of incapacitated adults, larceny, and embezzlement at two adult homes.
"We're executing the search warrants on facilities operated by Guardian Assisted Living and Dickensonville Rest Home. Those are located in the Dickensonville area of the Castlewood district of Russell County," Captain Bryant Skeens with the Russell County Sheriff's Office said.
Authorities from law enforcement, adult protective services, health agencies, and the state Attorney General armed with seven search warrants conducted the search at five separate locations.
"They're looking for patient records, medical records, financial records. It's basically a document search warrant concerning the holdings and operations of the company," Skeens said.
News 5 obtained the warrants, which say they are looking specifically for evidence of abuse and neglect of patients, including refusal of medical assistance. In one case, a patient died.
Authorities are also looking into whether patient payments were used properly.
No charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing.
