BLUEFIELD, Va. — UPDATE 11:55 a.m.
The search continues for a man suspected of shooting and injuring a Bluefield police officer.
The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation's Wytheville Field Office is investigating the shooting.
Officials say the incident began at approximately 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 when a Bluefield police officer initiated a traffic stop on a 2008 Toyota Yaris for an equipment violation. The Toyota, which had been traveling east on Route 460, pulled off to the shoulder near Exit 3.
They say an adult man was driving the Toyota. The shooting suspect, Donquale Gray, was in the passenger's seat. During the course of the traffic stop, Gray began shooting at and wounded the Bluefield officer as he was standing outside the vehicle on the driver's side.
Police report the Bluefield officer and a second officer, returned fire. The Toyota's driver got out of the vehicle and surrendered. Gray got into the driver's seat and drove off.
They say the Toyota was found abandoned a few hours later in Bluefield, West Virginia.
Officials say the wounded police officer is being treated for serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.
Police report the driver of the vehicle was cited for a traffic violation and released. He was not injured in the shooting. Nor was the other Bluefield officer at the scene.

UPDATE 4:30 a.m.
Virginia State Police released new information on where the suspect may be. They say Donquale Daurice Gray may now be on foot. His vehicle was recovered on the West Virginia side of Bluefield.
Police say Gray may now be on Augusta Street in Bluefield.
Virginia State Police have issued a law enforcement officer alert on behalf of the Bluefield Police Department.
The Bluefield Police Department is looking for Donquale Daurice Gray. He's 25-years-old, 6’ 1”, with brown eyes and black hair.
Police say the suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous and is a suspect in the shooting of a Bluefield, Virginia police officer.
Police report the officer was shot and wounded and is being treated at the hospital.
They say the suspect is in a blue 2008 Toyota Yaris hatchback bearing West Virginia registration of 53U-974.
