Man accused of stabbing girlfriend in Big Stone Gap

A 36-year-old man accused of stabbing his girlfriend in a Big Stone Gap apartment has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding.

Conan Janus Blankenship was arrested after dispatch said he was walking down the road with no shirt on and blood on him.

According to authorities, Blankenship's girlfriend said she was asleep in their bedroom and Blankenship put both legs on her shoulders and started beating her and stabbing her. The girlfriend added she got Blankenship off of her and made her way to kids, believing they were in harm. The woman was able to get out of the apartment with her kids and went to a neighbor's apartment and called police.

Blankenship is facing one count of aggravated malicious wounding, which is a Class 2 felony.
