Nearly $2 million coming to "Troops to Teachers" program in Virginia
RICHMOND, Va. —
Nearly $2 million in grant money is coming to the “Troops to Teachers” program in Virginia.
The money supports efforts to recruit retired and retiring veterans for second careers as teachers in Virginia.
The five-year award provides more than $380,000 in annual support for the program at William & Mary which was established in April 2017.
“Many of Virginia’s military retirees possess educational backgrounds and life experiences that are well aligned with the needs of our students and schools,” Gov. Ralph Northam (D) said. “This additional funding will allow the Commonwealth to build on our effort to tap this pool of talent as a means of easing the teacher shortage, especially in critical areas like mathematics and career and technical education.”
