Protesters rally against Virginia Senator Bill Carrico

A small group of protesters gathered in Abingdon on Wednesday to protest Virginia Senator Bill Carrico.

Protesters gathered outside the Martha Washington Inn to express their frustration with state Medicaid funding.

Protesters told news 5 they think Carrico needs to do more for residents in Southwest Virginia and needs to spend more time listening to his constituents.

"I've met a lot of people in Scott County who need healthcare, but for one reason or another, they don't qualify. So, they go to RAM once a year," said protester Norma Mclemore.

She went on to say she's lost friends who were unable to afford medical insurance and who didn't qualify for Medicaid. She says enough is enough.
