ETSU ranked 14th in mid-major poll

ETSU plays two games on the road this week.

After rattling off five straight victories, the ETSU men’s basketball team cracked the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll, as the updated rankings were released late Monday night.

The Bucs, who stand at 13-4 overall and 3-1 in the Southern Conference, made the largest jump of any team in the poll as ETSU went from being unranked to No. 14 this week.

ETSU posted wins over Samford and Chattanooga last week and have won 13 of its first 17 games, marking the third straight season the Blue and Gold have accomplished the feat – something that has only been done one other time in program history (1948-51).

The Bucs are gearing up for their first road swing in 2019 as ETSU takes on The Citadel Thursday night in Charleston, S.C., and then heads to Macon, Ga., to face Mercer on Saturday.

In addition to be ranked in the Mid-Major Poll, the Bucs are also among the national leaders in several statistical categories.

ETSU leads the country in total rebounds (723) and rebound margin (13.8), while ranking 10th in rebounds per game (42.5), 11th in total assists (269), 20th in offensive rebounds per game (13.7), 23rd in scoring margin (15.1), 29th in defensive rebounds per game (28.9), 33rd in total steals (126) and 38th in field goal percentage (48.4).

Individually, junior forward Jeromy Rodriguez (Santiago, Dominican Republic) leads all Division I players in total rebounds (198), while ranking fourth in rebounds per game (11.6), eighth in double-doubles (9), 10th in defensive rebounds per game (7.9) and 13th in offensive rebounds per game (3.7). Rodriguez is also only one of nine Division I players to be averaging double digits in scoring (11.4) and rebounding (11.6), along with averaging over two assists per game (2.4).

Sophomore forward Mladen Armus (Belgrade, Serbia) ranks 27th in total rebounds (142), sophomore guard Patrick Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) ranks 30th in three-point field goals made (47) and junior guard Isaiah Tisdale (Lexington, Ky.) is 32nd in assist to turnover ratio (3.00).
