Monster Energy will remain the sponsor of NASCAR's top series by signing an extension, according to a report from NBC Sports published Tuesday.

NASCAR is expected to announce the news as the Cup Series comes to Bristol for the weekend. Monster Energy replaced Sprint as title sponsor in December 2016 and became only the fourth sponsor in the Cup era that dates back to 1971, according to the report.

Chairman Brian France was optimistic about energy drink brand's ability to bring a younger audience to the sport and was complimentary of what the sponsor had delivered so far in the relationship.

The initial report from Street & Smith's Sports Business Daily noted Monster's initial deal was for $20 million per season.
