The Backstretch Blog's Top 16 in '18: No. 13 Jamie McMurray
Hard to believe that in one week I will be in Daytona, there's so much going on right now the fact that's it is racing season doesn't seem real. But it soon enough. Cars will be on the track in just three days and there is a race on Sunday. In the meantime, lets continue to get in the mood with this countdown..Here's today's driver
Number 13- Jamie McMurray , Chip Ganassi Racing
It's hard to find a driver in the garage area with as diverse a resume as Jamie McMurray. He's won the Daytona 500, the Coke 600, the Brickyard and the 24 hours of Daytona. And yet he is constantly the most under the radar drivers in the garage, mainly because he lacks consistency. The addition of Kyle Larson to CGR a couple of years ago seemed to really helped McMurray, my guess is because it brought someone else who understands the cars into the mix and lifted up the program as a whole.
That being said, McMurray hasn't won a race since 2013. To win championships, you have to win races. And while there is no doubt in my mind that he is easily one of the top 16 drivers in the garage area, it's hard for me to consider him a true challenger for the Cup. He finished 12th in the points last season and his best points finish is 11th in 2004. A 10th-15th place driver is who he is.
