Caleb Perhne is News 5 WCYB’s multimedia journalist focusing on Carter, Unicoi and Washington counties.
Caleb started at WCYB as an intern in the summer of 2016. He stayed on part time for two years before being promoted to a full-time position in 2018.
Caleb’s passion for local news began at a very early age. He started a newscast at home at age 10, which was featured twice on WCYB in stories by the late Jim Conrad.
Caleb is a Carter County native. He graduated from Happy Valley High School in 2014 after starting a school newscast there. He also worked at WBEJ, Elizabethton’s AM radio station, for six years. He hosted a Saturday morning show and provided what was the only information source for many when severe storms knocked out power to a large part of the county.
Caleb graduated from Milligan College in 2018, earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism. In college, he led the television division of the Stampede, the student-operated news organization. During that time, he built up the newscast from a mostly human interest and feature story show into a quality news-focused program that gained the respect of students and faculty.
Caleb is excited to now be serving the Tri-Cities with the goal of telling this region’s stories with honesty, integrity and fairness.
