SNOW: StormTrack 5 Weather Alert Day Sunday (12/9/18)
A StormTrack 5 Weather Alert Day has been declared for Sunday with impacts lasting into Monday morning.
We are tracking a major winter storm for the region. Periods of snow Sunday (heavy at times). The snow could mix with rain and sleet, especially in the valleys (most likely southwest of the Tri-Cities).
Snowfall totals will vary from less than 6" southwest of the Tri-Cities to 6-12" across much of the region (including Tri-Cities) and more than 12" in the mountains (near 24" in spots)!
Prepare for heavy, wet snow, especially east of the Tri-Cities. Trees and powerlines could be knocked down resulting in lengthy power outages (especially rural areas). Travel could become dangerous Sunday and Monday morning (even impossible in the North Carolina mountains). Have your phone charged. You can watch us on Facebook and at WCYB.com/watch.
